KRA Pin Application in Kenya
Individual KRA Pin
This applies to all natural persons who are either Kenyan Nationals, Non-Kenyan Residents, as well as Non-Kenyan Non-Residents. The two latter cases usually apply to those who have business interests within the republic of Kenya but not Kenyan by birth or registration.
You will need;
- National ID or Refugee/Alient ID/Passport for Non-Kenyans
- Residential and Postal Address
- Contact Address including an active email and telephone number
- Your profession, employment status, business activity or any other source of income
Tax Obligations Available;
- Income Tax – This is a mandatory obligation
- VAT (Value Added Tax for various goods and services)
- Rental Income (For those with estate investment and interest)
- Digital Tax (More so for digital service providers)
The process is a bit simplified;
- Access the on iTax Portal.
- Click on new registration.
- Choose types as ‘individual’ and mode of application as ‘online’
- Proceed to fill all details accurately and precisely.
- When you have filled your email and notified to it needs to be verified, click on Send button so that a code is sent to your email. Check your email and enter the code in the fillable space that appears.
- Proceed with the other fields and Submit when done.
- You will be notified that it was successful and a receipt will be availed via a link. Click on the link to download your KRA Pin Certificate.
The same will be sent to your registered email together with an auto generated password for your iTax account.
Login in and change the password to a customized one.
Now you can access other KRA and Government Services.
Non Individual KRA Pin
This applies to all entities belonging to Kenyan Nationals or Non-Kenyan Residents & Non-Kenyan Non-Residents. The two latter cases usually applies to those who have business interests within the republic.
The entities can include;
- Institutions
- Companies
- Groups & Organizations – SHGs, CBOs, NGOs,
You will need;
- Certificate of Incorporation or Registration Certificates
- Individual KRA Pins for director(s) or officials
- Physical and Postal Address for the entity
- Contact Address including an active email and telephone number
- Primary and secondary economic activity of the entity
Tax Obligations Available;
- Company Tax – This is a mandatory obligation
- VAT
- Rental Income
- Digital Tax
- TOT
The process is a bit simplified;
- Access the application website on iTax Portal.
- Click on new registration which is animated with an up pointing human hand emoji.
- Choose type as ‘non-individual’ and mode of application as ‘online’
- Proceed to fill all details in other fields accurately and precisely.
- When you have filled your email, you get notified that it needs to be verified. To do so, click on Send button so that a code is sent to your email. Check your email inbox (other folders if missing in inbox) and enter the code received in the fillable space that appears.
- Proceed with the other fields giving as precise details as possible and Submit when done.
- You will be notified that it was successful and a receipt will be availed for the same via a link. Click on the link to download your KRA Pin Certificate.
The same will be sent to your registered email together with an auto generated password for your iTax account. Such a password is meant for one time use only!
Therefore, login in and change the password to a customized one. It is good to remember or save it for it is required every time you login to the portal.
Now your entity can easily access other Kenya Revenue Authority and Government of Kenya Services.
