ToggleOnboarding To KRA eTims in Kenya
Introduction
eTims (Electronic Tax Invoice Management System) is solution developed by Kenya Revenue Authority to aid in electronic tax invoicing for all business transaction within the Republic of Kenya.
Why Onboard To eTims?

- Ease of Business Operations – It makes it easy for your customers to claim expense when filing Income Tax Returns
- It is free – You are not charged anything to onboard to the system
eTims Options & Suitability
There are various options depending on the kind of business you do that will be convenient to you.
eTims Lite
This is accessible through USSD *222# or Web at e-Citizen Portal. It is suitable for businesses with minimal transactions, individuals and sole proprietors.
Online Portal
This is accessible through Web at eTims Website and is exclusively tailored for service industry where no goods are supplied.
eTims Client
This is a downloadable software which you install on your computer through which you will be generating invoices.
It is suitable for both service providers and those dealing in goods. It supports multiple branches, paypoints and cashier tills.
VSCU – Virtual Sales Control Unit
This option allows for system to system integration between invoicing system/ERP and eTims; and is best suitable for taxpayers with bulk transactions/invoices.
OSCU – Online Sales Control Unit
This option allows for system to system integration between invoicing system/ERP and eTims; and is best suitable for taxpayers using online invoicing system.
Onboarding Procedure
You will need the following documents;
- Introductory letter duly signed by business owner or director(s) especially if the application is being done on behalf.
- Duly filled eTims Acknowledgement & Commitment Form
- National ID & KRA Pin of the owner or director(s)
- Registration Certificate for Sole Proprietors or CR12 for companies or Partnership Deed for Partnerships
- Serial Number or Device ID for the computer you will be using (eTims Client)
Follow the below steps;
Step 1 – Go Online
Access eTims Website.
Step 2 – Sign Up
Click on Sign Up button
Fill in KRA Pin and other required details
Enter OTP (One Time Password) sent to your registered phone number
Create a strong memorable password for your account
Step 3 – Log In
With KRA Pin and password created in the previous step, you can now successful login to eTims Website.
Step 4 – Service Request
Click on Service Request button.
Select your preferred eTims solution under “eTims Type” menu
Step 5 – Uploads & Submitting
Upload the required documents. Ensure the forms and letters are duly signed by owner or director(s)
Submit your application for review, verification and approval by KRA.

Step 6 – After Approval
You you make a error during application, you will be notified to make necessary changes. If not, the application will be approved for you to proceed.
You will now need to set up your account further for you to start invoicing. It is easy on eTims Lite and Online Portal for which you will be good to go after watching How To Use eTims Lite and How To Use eTims Portal.
Further Steps for eTims Client
We will now emphasize on eTims Client as it can be a bit challenging if yo are not tech savvy.
Download eTims Paypoint or eTims Multi-Paypoint.
Run to software (.exe file) on your computer
Once successfully installed, enter your KRA Pin, Branch ID (usually 00 for main, followed by 01, 02 … for other branches) and serial number you submitted during Service Request. Click on Initialize button.
On the next interface that appear click on Receive button, select features then click OK.
Next Click on Management Module. Once approved you will receive login credentials. Enter them to login.
Click on User button to create your user. Here you can even customize your login credentials.
You can now logout and login again with new login credentials.
You can now explore the Environment and Features including Customer Management, Item Management, Sales Management, Purchase Management, Import Management, and Stock Management.
